Sunil Gadgil, alto saxophone

Dr. Sunil Gadgil has appeared as saxophone soloist with groups such as Conspirare, The University of Texas Wind Ensemble and Tex Sax. He has performed in Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States with REVEL, the Elision Saxophone Quartet, the Tipping Point Saxophone Quartet, and The University of Texas Wind Ensemble. He regularly performs with the Austin and San Antonio Symphonies. His solo sopranino, soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone playing can be heard on several CD releases on the Naxos, Crystal and Longhorn Music labels: Over the Rainbow and Bach Again and Next Generation with Harvey Pittel and Tex Sax, Circus Maximus with Jerry Junkin and The University of Texas Wind Ensemble, and Sextour with Harvey Pittel and the Westwood Wind Quintet.

Before his current position teaching saxophone, clarinet, and general music at Prairie View A&M University, he completed two years as Saxophone Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree under his principal teacher and mentor Harvey Pittel, doing his doctoral research on the rise of the saxophone in South Indian Carnatic classical music. At home, Sunil and his wife Kristin enjoy making music together and playing with their dogs, Tashi and Chloe.
